Why it wins
Around Marysville and Snohomish County, Himalayan blackberry climbs fences, closes trails, and turns a backyard into a wall in a couple of wet seasons. Once it arches and roots at the tips, hand cutting feels endless. Homeowners call when the fence disappears or the kids’ path is gone.
Fence-line walls are our most common blackberry request. Trails that pinched shut, corners behind the shop, and the strip between the driveway and the neighbor’s line — same story. Flag the fence, pets, and anything underground before we run.
Method
A compact track loader with a mulching head knocks the canes down and grinds them into wood chips. Chips stay on the ground on typical jobs — no burn pile. Some haul in the dump trailer is optional if you want less depth in spots.
We do not excavate root balls. Crowns left in the dirt often send up new shoots. That is how this plant works. A second light pass or spot spray the following season is normal — same answer as our live FAQ.
After the first grind
“Done” after the first visit means the wall is gone and you can walk the fence again. It does not mean the plant can never return. Plan for a maintenance conversation on the estimate — yearly lighter brush work or spot treatment keeps the lot usable. We never promise “eradicate forever.”
